Claiming

🏝️ Lands Plugin Quick Start Guide

Overview

Lands is shrimple.cc's land claiming and protection system that allows you to secure your builds, create communities within your nation, and collaborate with trusted players. This guide will walk you through everything you need to know to get started with claiming and managing your territory.

On shrimple.cc, Lands integrates with our three-nation system (Port Royale, Shrimpton, and Coral Crown) (Currently a WIP). Your land exists within your chosen nation, allowing you to form smaller, tight-knit communities based on shared interests, geographic proximity, or personal friendships while maintaining your national identity.

What You Need to Know

The Basics

Lands is your protection system against griefing, theft, and unwanted modifications. Once you claim chunks of land:

  • Only trusted players can build, break blocks, or interact with items in your territory
  • Your builds are automatically protected 24/7
  • You can manage everything through an intuitive GUI menu
  • Your land can represent your nation in structured warfare events

Important Concepts

Chunk-Based Claiming: Lands works with chunks (16x16 block areas), not individual blocks. This makes protection efficient and easy to visualize.

Nation Affiliation: Your land remains part of your nation (Port Royale, Shrimpton, or Coral Crown), maintaining your national benefits while creating a personal community.

Member Contributions: Each member you trust to your land contributes additional claim capacity, encouraging you to build communities.

Upkeep Costs: Lands may require regular maintenance payments stored in your land's bank.

Getting Started: First-Time Setup

Step 1: Create Your First Land

What you need: Be standing in the chunk where you want to establish your base.

Steps:

  1. Press F3 + G to display chunk boundaries (highly recommended!)
  2. Stand in your desired starting chunk
  3. Type: /lands create [name]
    • Example: /lands create ShrimpHaven
  4. Your first chunk is now claimed and protected!

Important: Choose your land name carefully—it represents your community identity on the server.

Step 2: Expand Your Territory

What you need: Stand in a chunk adjacent to your existing claim.

Steps:

  1. Walk to an adjacent chunk (use F3 + G to see boundaries)
  2. Type: /lands claim
  3. The chunk will be added to your land

Alternative Method - Auto Claiming:

  • Type /lands claim auto to automatically claim adjacent chunks as you walk
  • Useful for quickly expanding your territory

Note: There is a cost per chunk claimed and potential upkeep fees. Check your land's bank balance regularly with /lands balance.

Step 3: Invite Trusted Players

What you need: The username of the player you want to invite.

Steps:

  1. Type: /lands trust [playername]
    • Example: /lands trust Steve
  2. The player receives an invitation
  3. They accept with: /lands accept
  4. They can now build and interact within your land

To Remove Trust:

  • Type: /lands untrust [playername]

Step 4: Access Your Land Management GUI

What you need: Just one simple command.

Steps:

  1. Type: /lands or /lands menu
  2. A GUI menu opens with all management options
  3. Click through the menus to configure your land

Troubleshooting

Can't Claim a Chunk

Possible causes:

  • The chunk is too far from your existing claims
  • You've reached your claim limit
  • Another player has already claimed it
  • You haven't selected the correct land (if you have multiple)

Solutions:

  1. Use /lands edit [name] to select the right land
  2. Check if you need more members to increase claim capacity
  3. Use /lands map to see what's already claimed
  4. Verify you have enough money to purchase the claim

Trusted Player Can't Build

Possible causes:

  • They're not properly trusted to your land
  • Role permissions are too restrictive
  • They're trying to interact with something their role doesn't allow

Solutions:

  1. Verify they appear in your Trusted Players list
  2. Check their role and permissions in the Roles menu
  3. Ensure you didn't accidentally ban them
  4. Try re-trusting them: /lands untrust [player] then /lands trust [player]

Land Upkeep Not Being Paid

Possible causes:

  • Insufficient funds in land bank
  • Upkeep payment failed

Solutions:

  1. Check balance: /lands balance
  2. Deposit funds: /lands deposit [amount]
  3. Coordinate with members to contribute to the bank
  4. Review upkeep costs and plan accordingly

Multiple Lands - Wrong One Selected

Problem: Commands are affecting the wrong land.

Solution:

  • Use /lands edit [name] to explicitly select which land you want to manage
  • The selected land will be used for all subsequent commands
  • Verify selection by opening /lands menu and checking the land name

Tips for Success

1. Always Use F3 + G Seriously, this single keybind makes claiming so much easier. It shows you exactly where chunk boundaries are.

2. Start Small, Expand Smart Don't over-claim initially. Claim your immediate build area first, then expand as your community grows and you can afford the upkeep.

3. Trust Selectively Only trust players you genuinely want to collaborate with. Every trusted player gains full building rights in your land.

4. Maintain Your Land Bank Keep sufficient funds deposited to cover upkeep. If payments fail, you could lose your land or face penalties.

5. Communicate with Members Use land chat to coordinate builds, share resources, and make decisions together. Good communication makes great communities.

6. Embrace Your Nation Remember that your land represents your nation (Port Royale, Shrimpton, or Coral Crown). Participate in national events and consider how your land advances your nation's goals.

7. Plan for Growth Each member contributes additional claim capacity. Recruiting active, trustworthy members helps your land expand.

8. Document Your Roles If you create custom roles, keep notes on what each role can do. This prevents confusion as your community grows.
